The Bereavement Support Foundation Course
and Face to Face Support Elective
Cruse Bereavement Care is looking to recruit a wide range of volunteers who have the personal qualities to provide effective support (BVs). This course is designed for people with an interest in supporting and caring for bereaved people, including those who many not have any formal qualifications. The course develops basic counselling skills to be used in bereavement support work, but does not assume any prior training or experience.
The Bereavement Support course is a 3 Day mandatory foundation module followed by a 2 day Face to Face elective module. After completing the elective prospective BVs will also complete a day of Safeguarding training and an Induction/Skills Practice day. Attendance at all 7 days is mandatory. In addition to this BVs will also attend a further module in Sudden & Traumatic death within the first 12 months of volunteering.
Other electives that may follow the 3 Day mandatory foundation module are: Telephone Support (2 days), Email Support (2 days), Group Support (3 days) and Children and Young Person Support (4 days). This training could be made available to BVs after the completion of a 12 Month Development Review and support from their Cruse Supervisor.
